Volkswagen’s most fuel-efficient production Passat to date has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The
new Passat BlueMotion has a combined consumption of 67.3 mpg for the saloon, while CO2 emissions are expected to be just 109 g/km (114 g/km for Passat Estate)*.With a 70-litre fuel tank capacity, the Passat BlueMotion has a theoretical range of 1,035 miles – the equivalent of driving from London to Bratislava in Slovakia. It is due to go on sale in the UK in June and the first models are expected to arrive in August.
Despite efficiency measures, the car remains spacious, comfortable, refined and safe. Its great economy and low emissions are achieved by an efficient 1.6-litre 105 PS common rail TDI engine with manual six-speed gearbox, Stop/Start and battery regeneration systems, low rolling resistance tyres, aerodynamic and lightweight alloy wheels, suspension lowered by 10 mm, and an underbody panel to reduce aerodynamic drag.
Comfort and safety are not compromised for economy. All items which are fitted to the current S model will also be standard on BlueMotion versions.
Items such as the fatigue detection system, city emergency braking function, Park Assist II, High Beam Assist and Easy Open boot will also be available as options on BlueMotion models.
*Pricing and final UK mpg and CO2 emissions figures will be announced closer to launch.
